Welcome Oak Mesa families to a new and exciting school year, with new experiences!

Many of you are aware from Superintendent Coles’ letter to families that we will begin the 2020-2021 school year with full distance learning.  This decision was in response to Governor Newsom’s orders in hopes that the number of COVID cases will soon decline, providing a safe learning environment for both students and staff.  Nonetheless, the Oak Mesa staff has been working hard over the summer, preparing for another wonderful school year that will be fun for students while providing them with a rigorous standards based curriculum.

As shared in my July 2020 letter to families, this year's academic experience will be much different than that of March 2020 as we have had more time to prepare our virtual classrooms.  Since this experience is new to students, families, and school staff, I remind everyone to have patience as we learn together how to navigate through this new medium.  As is typically done in face to face classrooms, your student’s teacher will share and explain the expectations they have for virtual student behavior and academics during the first few days of school, as well as during their virtual Back to School Night.

I encourage students and families to feel free to contact teachers or our office if you experience any difficulty with accessing Zoom meetings or Canvas platforms as we are more than happy to assist you in resolving any problems you or your student is experiencing.  I also recommend that families explore our school website, in particular training videos on Canvas and Zoom, under the heading "Parent Information".

Although the 2020-2021 academic school year will look different than past years, know that our committement to educate our students remains the same while keeping in mind their social and emotional well being.

Sincerely,

Steven Patterson

Principal
